HOW TO INSTALL AN SSL/TLS CERTIFICATE IN WEB HOST MANAGER (WHM).

In definition the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificates are small data file that bind the organization’s information to a cryptographic key digitally of which when installed it activates a padlock and the http protocol hence only allowing secure connection between the server and the web browser.

The web host manager is a program that is powerful that allows administrative access to the back end of the cpanel.There are two versions that the host gator uses. For the reseller accounts they use the basic web host manager and for the VPS accounts together with the dedicate servers they get room web host manager (rWHM) that has features which require root access to the enabled server. The resellers can not have the rWHM.

Requirements.

  1. The Server Certificate.

This is the certificate you received from the certificate authority for your domain. The server certificate may have been sent to you via e-mail and if not so you have to visit your account dashboard, clicking on your order then download the certificate.

  1. Your Intermediate certificates.

The intermediate certificates allow the devices connected to your server to identify the issuing certificate authority. There may be more than one of these certificate. If by any chance you got your certificate in a ZIP folder then the intermediate certificates should also be contained there which at times is known as the certificate authority bundle.

IF this is not the case then download the most definite certificate authority bundle for your certificate.

  1. Your Private Key.

The private key should be in your server or otherwise in your possession if at all you generated your CSR from a free generator. On certain platforms the private key not visible but the server keeps track of it.

Installation Instructions.

  1. Log in to Web Host Manager.

To log in to the web host manager may typically require you to access https://domain.com:2087.

Please note that you get an error message when attempting to visit your web host manager account. This is due to the fat that your log in page is using a self-signed certificate by default. Regard the message and proceed past the error message.

  1. Enter your Details.

Enter your username and password then proceed to click “Log in”.

  1. Go to your Homepage.

Make sure you are on your web host manager homepage.

  1. Click TLS/SSL.

Click on the ”SSL/TLS option”.

  1. Click “Install an SSL Certificate on a Domain”.

In the SSL/TLS manager page, click “install an SSL Certificate on a Domain”.

 

  1. Type in your Domain Name.

In the Domain field type the domain name of your wish of which you needed to secure with your SSL certificate.

  1. Input your Certificate Files.

In the appropriate text boxes copy and paste your certificate files.

  • Certificate: It is the server certificate that was issued to you.
  • Private Key: It is the private key that was created during the generation process.
  • Certificate Authority Bundle: They are the intermediate certificates that allows devices and browsers to understand the issuing certificate authority.
  1. Click Install.

Once the above process is complete in the corresponding certificate files, click install.
